The Value of a Photograph

The value of a photograph changes with time. A photograph taken one day will give us joy in the present. We print it, we hang it on the wall, and every now and then we might stop as we walk past it, smile and reflect on that one little moment in time.

Yet, as years go by, the significance of that photograph can deepen. It transforms from a mere image into a cherished memory. What once was a snapshot of a fleeting moment evolves into a testament of love, joy, and connection. Each glance can evoke not just the feelings of the day it was taken, but also the growth and changes that have occurred since.

Photographs serve as a bridge to our past, connecting us to people, places, and experiences that shape our lives. They capture emotions and stories that would otherwise fade with time. As we accumulate these memories, the walls of our homes become not just a gallery of images, but a tapestry of our lives, filled with laughter, tears, and milestones.

Ultimately, the enduring value of a photograph lies not only in what it depicts, but in how it resonates with our hearts over the years - a reminder of moments that define us and the love that surrounds us.

It was a fear of seeing my own memories forgotten and lost to time that first motivated me to begin documenting my life and the people in it.

This passion quickly grew to wanting to document those precious moments for others. It was in the connections between those around me that lay the foundations for my love of portrait photography.

The moments I cherish most are those deeply rooted in connection - the laughter shared between siblings, the warmth of a father’s embrace with his daughter, the joy exuded by grandparents surrounded by their grandchildren. These are the moments that light up any room and fill hearts with happiness. Through portrait photography, I found my true calling, where emotion and storytelling converge.

Thank you to all of you who allow me into your world and trust me with your memories. Your stories, your love, and your candid moments inspire my work and fuel my passion for photography. It really is an incredible honour.

With love,

Lauren Mac ♡
